Here at HMD, we run a lot of medium or large parts that take a particular skill set. Beyond the handling and manipulation challenges, the parts often distort under their own weight. In large parts, thermal distortions and movement during and after machining are proportionally larger. Likewise, residual stresses that are pre-existing or induced during machining can cause amplified distortions.

Machinists experienced with large parts are essential. Our engineers are just as important. Their analysis and planning, lead to robust procedures that allow us to consistently produce high quality parts

Engineering support provides similar advantages for castings. Beyond the need to qualify patterns and castings, there are dimensional and material variations from part to part that need to be accommodated through process and fixturing.
